Action for Pain
Working in partnership with Sighthill Green and Whinpark GP practices, Health All Round offers a range of activities for people experiencing chronic pain.
Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than 3 months in spite of medications or treatments. Typically, after after injury or surgery most people start feeling better within a few months. However, sometimes the pain persists for longer or appears without any actual injury. Things that work for acute pain such as medication, rest, heat, cold etc. are generally less successful for the treatment of chronic pain. Chronic pain can be a very isolating experience affecting many areas of everyday life: family relationships; friendships; ability to work or engage in social activities; reduced ability to carry out practical tasks.
Our combination of psycho-educational courses, webinars and one to one support will help you to develop effective coping strategies for living with chronic pain. They will help you to understand the nature of chronic pain and the importance of:
Lifestyle factors for managing chronic pain
Understanding your medication and how it may affect you
Developing self-compassion and acceptance
Developing a sense of control
You will have opportunities to meet with others who are also struggling with chronic pain. Many people find this helpful - knowing they are not alone, that there are other people out there who truly understand what they are going through.
You will have time and opportunity to explore, in a supported way, how pain is affecting you and your life, and by small steps, start to improve it. We will explore how to make the most of your better days, respond more calmly to the difficult days and build your capacity and confidence for a healthier and happier life.
NB. Our six week Action for Pain course is also delivered in Polish!
