Volunteering with Health All Round

Why volunteer?

Health All Round relies on volunteers to help us provide the broad range of services available. We work with about 40 volunteers and we are truly grateful for their support, they are the lifeblood of the organisation. Volunteering has also been linked to health benefits for the volunteers themselves. So it’s genuinely a win win situation!

Volunteering and helping other people has been shown to reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose. While it’s true that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a huge amount of time out of your busy day. Giving in simple ways can help those in need and improve your health and happiness.

Benefits of Volunteering: 4 ways to feel healthier and happier

    3. Volunteering can advance your career & help you into paid work

Who can volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer and Health All Round offices are fully accessible as are the majority of venues from which we run groups and activities. However all roles require at least two references and some roles will require PVG checks. Counsellors and CBT therapists will have to be studying at degree / diploma level and have reached the ‘ready to practice’ stage in their course. Student counsellors/ therapists will be expected to have relevant previous experience.

What training will I get?

All volunteers will be asked to attend our Volunteer Induction Training which includes guidance on: Boundaries; Confidentiality; Working with Vulnerable Adults; Health & Safety. Any other training really depends on your volunteer role, your previous experience and your own learning & personal development needs. HAR strongly encourages the personal development of volunteers and we offer an ongoing range of free, optional trainings on topics including mental health, first aid and groupwork skills.

A few words from our volunteers:

I would never have thought my life would be so good a year ago. Health All Round are such a joy to volunteer for.” (Volunteer receptionist)

“I would like to thank Health All Round for all the training and workshops that I attended. I feel the more I go to the more my confidence grows. I enjoy every one and take something away from each one.” (Administration Volunteer)

“I very much appreciate the opportunity of volunteering at Health All Round. The services they provide and the quality of support to volunteers is, in my opinion, quite remarkable.” (CBT Therapist)
